LEOBEN, May 12th 2022

The year 2022 is all about youth in regional development. Addressing their needs – especially considering demographic change – is more important than ever. Rural areas in particular are struggling with migration problems. The focus on young people in industrial regions, which often also have a peripheral location, has received little attention so far.

The Interreg SI-AT project „YOUIND – Youth in Industrial Regions“ has addressed precisely this issue. Two industrial regions – the Austrian „Styrian Iron Route“ and the Slovenian town of Idrija – worked together with university partners from Graz and Ljubljana on this topic for two years.

The focus was on the valorisation and youth-oriented communication of the industrial heritage and today’s industry in order to strengthen the bonds within these regions. Thanks to the transnational exchange between the „Styrian Iron Route“ and Idrija, the two regions have jointly implemented a number of successful pilot actions. Innovative formats such as „HeritageHacks“, industrial culture festivals and „Actionbounds“ have ensured numerous participation and positive media resonance in the past year. But also a joint strategy and a good practice catalogue are among the outputs of this transnational cooperation.

We are looking forward to present  results and insights gained from a practical and research perspective on 12th May 2022 in the Museumscenter (Kulturquartier) in Leoben (Austria), hereby cordially inviting you to the final conference of the YOUIND project.
